When it came time to attend Winter Retreat last year, I had been inconsistently attending Chi Alpha for about a year. I signed up with a small group that I had attended once or twice and was hesitant about going because I didn’t know if it would really be worth my time. I grew up going to church camps but never really gave the Lord a chance to move in my life during one, so why should this retreat be any different? However, going to Winter Retreat was one of the most catalytic weekends of my life. It didn’t matter who I knew going in to the weekend, because I left with a whole group of new friends and new connections.
I specifically remember being in service on the first night and sitting in the back watching everyone else have these incredible encounters with God. I wanted that, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it. It was then that the Lord gently prompted me to stop watching and start actively participating in the relationship I wanted with Him. Once I stopped becoming a spectator, there was no going back and I’ve been on a journey ever since to daily pursue a relationship with Him. A weekend I thought was going to be a waste of time turned into a weekend I look back on with thankfulness. Get to Winter Retreat, because the Lord is waiting to meet with you in unexpected ways. He’s just waiting on you to give Him the opportunity to move. Sign up now.
